It doesn’t take long for these filters to accumulate dust, debris, pet hair, etc.

Replace carbon monoxide, smoke detector, and flashlight batteries!
Most alarms have a warning when batteries are going low or the appliance is near the end of it’s life – but not all. I just experienced this with my own CO detector! Most are only good for 7-10 years, so check to manufacture date to make sure they are within their life span to avoid any scary hazards!

Change all clocks!
Thankfully our cellphones are smarter than us – for the most part – but we still have to remember our microwaves, stoves, wall clocks, alarm clocks, car clocks, and non-smart watches!

Spring cleaning!
This not only makes your home look and smell fresh, but it does wonders for lung health and your mood! Pet dander, mold, and dust mites are just a few things that accumulate and are blown around in your home. Pick a week (or two) and choose one room to do each day to deep clean – don’t forget the windows and curtains! You will be amazed how happy you’ll be when it’s over!

Change your vehicle tires!
If it is done snowing, that is. Here in the Upper Peninsula, we don’t always feel Spring when the calendar says it is. However, when it is safe to do so, changing your vehicle tires to a summer set will greatly increase the life of your winter or all-season tires. It saves your wallet too from having to buy new sets every year!

Get some fresh air!
Open the windows, hear the birds, go for a walk, sit on the porch, whatever you enjoy outdoors – DO IT! We don’t get these opportunities long enough in Upper Michigan, so live in the present and bask in the sunlight.

Daylight Savings Time begins on March 8th, 2026.
